#Synopsis:

All my life I followed the rules. I lived under the iron rule of my father and did what was expected of me.

Until now.

I want to live in the big city. Make new friends. Get a great job. Meet a man that makes me swoon. Fall in love.

Sounds straightforward enough, but making my way in a city of six million isn’t as seamless as I’d hoped. And the man is more sour than sweet.

Something’s got to give. And this time it won’t be me.

#Excerpt

prologue

A piercing cry echoed through the delivery room as the baby came into the world.

“It’s a girl,” a nurse cried exuberantly.

Exhausted, the child’s mother collapsed onto the stiff white sheets of the hospital mattress while the father watched on in dismay.

Despite the joyous occasion, the father’s mood was remarkably dour. Another one? he thought grimly. Neither of his daughters would be able to take his place at the head of his Baptist congregation.

There was nothing to it.

They would have to have another child. The plan began forming in his mind even as he went through the motions of drumming up a pleased expression. Father had his attention wrapped so tightly around how to get a male heir to carry on his lineage that he almost didn’t notice the flurry of activity teeming around his wife.

Something was terribly wrong. His eyes darted to where a nurse placed his daughter in a clear-sided case as activity swarmed around him. Another nurse hooked her arm around his elbow to lead him out of the delivery room and into the hallway. Dimly, he acknowledged her words – bleeding, emergency, infection, surgery.

In the waiting area, his escort gently deposited him in a hard plastic chair and then scurried off, promising to return with news. Closing in on two in the morning, he realized the room was nearly empty. His other daughter was at home with one of the parishioners from his church, unbeknownst to the struggle her mother faced. Slumping forward, Father rested his elbows on his knees, dropped his head into his outstretched palms, and waited, silently praying for the life of his wife.

Later – he wasn’t sure how much time had passed – the grim-face doctor strode into the waiting room and called his name.

“My wife?” he choked to the man clad in dark blue surgical scrubs.

“She’s resting comfortably in the recovery room.”

“What happened?” Father wasn’t one to tremble, but at this moment, his voice shook. He couldn’t lose her. No other woman was worthy to fulfill the role of his wife.

The doctor began a lengthy medical discussion of what had occurred. Most of the terminology passed outside his understanding of medicine, but he was too proud to ask the doctor to explain.

He understood one word.

“Unfortunately, we had to perform a hysterectomy,” the doctor said gently. “She will never be able to have children again.”

A silent fury crept through him at the injustice of the situation. But he could not reveal the full depth of his emotion. He was a respected member of the community; as the pastor, the community called upon him for weddings, funerals, counseling … No, he could not scream at the doctor for butchering his wife’s body. He could not wail because he would never have the son that he’d dreamed of his entire adult life.

“Come back and see your wife. We’ll bring your daughter in. She’s doing beautifully. Do you have a name picked out?” the doctor said, reading the pastor’s silence as shock.

The pastor cleared his throat. His lips pressed into a taut line. “My wife selects the names for the girls.” He kept his voice to a murmur; afraid any inflection would betray his disbelief and disdain for another girl. Was it so much for a man of faith to want a son to carry on his family name and heritage? He was a pastor, his father was a pastor, his father’s father was a pastor, and so forth. The only way to control who would take over his congregation would be by selecting a husband for one of his daughters. He wasn’t opposed to the notion, but he would prefer to have a son to mold into the ideal successor.

Fighting a sigh, the pastor dutifully entered the hospital room where his fatigued wife lay with a bundle of pink blanket on her breast. He moved to her side, making the appropriate cooing noises, and stroked his hand over the child’s wispy blond strands of hair. It wasn’t as if he had no feelings at all for the baby girl. She evoked a sense of pride and a corner of softness in his heart, but she wasn’t what he truly wanted.

“What would you like to call her?” His voice sounded rough like sandpaper when he spoke. Thankfully, none of the nurses in the room or his wife took notice, likely assuming his wife’s near-death experience had left him tired and shaken.

“Iris,” his wife said resolutely. “My baby girls are my flowers. I already have a Violet and now an Iris.” She gazed at the child with such love and affection, the pastor momentarily wondered if he was looking at this scenario backward. His wife survived the traumatic birth and held their healthy daughter in their arms. What more could he ask for?

A son.

#Excerpt

“Tell me about your life Nina Mae.” Ace invited.

“I’m a golden child. Very much a daddy’s girl and a mummy’s darling.” She began conversationally, not the least bit embarrassed by her admission. “Spoilt. An only child of only children. There’s just my mum and my dad and little ole me, but I’m not a brat.” She told him. “I’m an Essex girl. Do you know what that is?”

“No,”

She smiled at him. “You’ll have to visit me in England to find out.” She went on. “Are you going to dance with me?”

He scowled. “No.”

“Why not?” She pressed.

He crossed his arms over his chest and frowned at her again, Nina realised it was his way of telling her to shut the hell up.

“Let’s play a game,” she said instead, determined to get her own way. “If I win we dance and if you win you get to ask whatever you want.”

Ace pulled in a deep breath and let it out in a noisy whoosh. Why was he still here, he thought, but already knowing the answer. She wanted him, had made it damn obvious with all the nervous chatter and hair flicking. She was desperate enough to keep him guessing and he was curious enough, egotistical enough, to want to know how this would play out. “What’s the game?”

“Things that go together,” she explained. “But as pairs.”

“Pairs?”

“Yeah. For example I have to say something that is always referred to in a pair, like Kings and Queens and bricks and mortar, things like that.”

Ace shook his head, he’d never come across anyone so complex and playful in his life. But he was game. The pub was emptying and if he lost, it would be no hardship to wheel around by the table pretending to dance. Jesus Christ, this is what his life had become, playing fucking party games to get his ego stroked.

“You start,” he ordered. “Wait,” he held up his hand. “How many pairs to win?”

“How about until one of us stops?”

“Cool.”

“Left and right. Your turn.

This was going to be so easy he thought. “Brush and comb.”

They played for almost fifteen minutes, Ace was really getting into it, but knew he was going to lose. She was just too good and too fast. He eventually faltered and she clapped her hands, declaring herself the winner, of course. His lips twitched into a smile.

“Come on.” She stood quickly, eagerly heading over to the dance floor, but turned back when she saw that he hadn’t moved.

“Not out there,” he said. “Here.”

“Okay.” Nina agreed.

#Excerpt

Luke had considered not going back to the classroom to talk to Harper, but he’d never been one to shy away from a fight.

And she still had the sexy tool belt on. Which helped. A lot.

‘I didn’t think you’d be back,’ she said, not meeting his gaze.

‘It seemed a waste of a good ‘I’ll be back’ not to.’ He looked at her, wondering if she got the Arnie reference. She stared blankly, jiggling a hammer for a second before shoving it into a loop on her belt. ‘And I thought we had a few things we should slug out in private,’ he said. ‘As in, not in front of an entire class of your students. Or even worse, my mother,’ he added as an afterthought.

‘What sort of things?’ Harper’s hand was back on the hammer, which made Luke extremely nervous. If forced to describe her right now, this very second, the words ‘armed and dangerous’ would be perfect.

‘I thought we probably needed to discuss this thing we’ve got between us, for starters.’

‘What thing?’ Her hand held the head of the hammer, lifting it and then letting it slide back through its loop. Lift, slide. Lift, slide.

‘You can pretend all you want, Harper, but there is a thing and it’s the reason we got naked together.’

For a second the hammer was still. Then lift, slide. Lift, slide.

‘People get naked for a whole lot of reasons. It doesn’t have to be a big deal.’

‘True. Only I get the feeling it is a big deal for you, which is why you turfed me out on my arse the way you did.’

Harper’s hand formed a fist around the hammer, her white knuckles the only indication she acknowledged his words. At least the lift–slide had stopped before it completely threw him off course.

‘Okay, so now we’ve talked about that. What else did you want to talk about?’ said Harper.

#Synopsis:

Chloe Ryder had it all. Until she didn’t…

While the rest of her friends, otherwise known as the Fab Five, were away starting college, Chloe was left alone to endure a hellacious senior year of high school. Surrounded daily by a sea of familiar faces, she shared no bonds or friendships with her classmates. Everyone else had a place in the high school social scene. Everyone but Chloe. Bad enough was her label as the class outcast. But her dysfunctional home life made matters worse. An already fragile relationship between she and her mother began to unravel, turning Chloe’s once perfect existence into a nightmare. Worst part, though? The one person she’d counted on to help her through it – Flynn Caulder, her best friend’s brother and the secret object of her affection – was nowhere to be found. It was obvious he still resented Chloe for the decision she made years ago. Above the catty remarks and whispered gossip of others, Flynn’s actions were the ones that hurt the most. Flynn simply treated her as if she didn’t exist.

Right up until the one night he didn’t…

Handsome, popular, athletic and smart, Flynn Caulder made life look easy. Whatever he wanted, he got. Except the one person he couldn’t have. At some point, Chloe Ryder became more than his sister’s best friend. Brave enough to finally tell her so, she waffled with uncertainty, which he took as rejection. It was then he vowed to shut Chloe completely out of his life, determined to forget her. Though, he never could. With his sister, Suzanna, no longer around, Flynn’s resolve to keep Chloe at a distance is tested and eventually breaks. He takes off his mask of indifference, showing his true feelings for Chloe haven’t changed, but instead grown stronger. It leads to one magical night together neither of them will ever forget. But for entirely different reasons.

Now, three years later, Chloe and Flynn find themselves pulled together again by the magnetic connection that just won’t go away. Though they try to fight it, it becomes apparent time apart has done nothing but strengthen their feelings for one another. Can they make it last this time? Or will the pursuit of dreams once again take precedence over their relationship? They only have a summer to figure it out. And the clock is quickly ticking…

#Excerpt

I cry for the young high school aged girl who felt so lonely, the highlight of each day was crossing off another square on the calendar. Just one X closer to leaving her small hometown in search of something bigger and better. I cry for the younger sister who no matter how many accomplishments she racked up during her years in the high school drama club, no matter what lead roles she won, no matter how many people sang her praises for numerous flawless performances, she never received the acknowledgement she craved from her mother. She finally realized that in her mother’s eyes, she’d never measure up to the bar that her sister set and surpassed in everything she ever did. I cry for the girl with stars in her eyes, who dared to dream the impossible. The girl who was on top of the moon when she opened the acceptance letter and full scholarship from one of the most prestigious drama schools in the country. The girl who fought tooth and nail in convincing her parents to let her travel thousands of miles away to study her chosen field in the pursuit of her dreams. My body jerks uncontrollably, my sobs intensifying as my heart bleeds for the girl who eventually had to decline her scholarship, accepting the unjust punishment handed down by Mommy Dearest. Even though that scholarship was earned with hours of practice and late night rehearsals, the bad daughter didn’t deserve to reap the rewards of all her hard work and effort. Finally, I cry for the naïve girl, who desperately yearned to become a woman. The girl who after exhausting all the other ways to garner a man’s affection, resorted to the one act she knew would be the quickest way to winning his heart. Only after giving everything she had to give of herself on that one night, she quickly learned the awful feeling of rejection. The final flow of tears I cry is for the multiple losses this young girl had to experience. The loss of her dream, the loss of her first love, the lost respect of her mother.  But most of all, the one, singular, most important loss she’ll never get over, the loss that leaves her hollow to this day.

Only when the well of tears has finally dried up, do I relinquish my firm grip around Brian’s body. He looks down into my red, swollen, watery eyes. Wiping the last of the wetness from my face, Brian places a soft kiss on my forehead. “Feel better now?”

“Maybe just a little, yeah.”

“Think you’re ready to talk about it?” Brian asks with trepidation. I’m sure he’s scared any second now I’ll start another round of boo‐hoos.

“I don’t know, Brian. It’s some pretty heavy shit.” Heavy is an understatement.  In the past three years, I’ve been living like I’m carrying the weight of a two-ton elephant on my back. There’s one piggy‐back ride you don’t want to find yourself on the bottom of.

“Hey, I’ve got an idea. Hold on,” Brian says as he jumps off the bed. He immediately goes to his constant travel companion, his mini-camcorder and tripod. He begins setting up his equipment at the end of the bed, the lens pointing toward me.  As he tests for the appropriate camera angles and adjusts the tripod height, he starts to explain. “Okay, pretend you’re auditioning for the character in my series. And since it’s an impromptu audition with no lines to memorize or scripts to read from, I’m gonna need you to improvise. You have all the creative freedom to do or say whatever you want_”

“Good, because I’m about to get real creative when I call you every name in the book!” I retort. Seriously, has Brian lost his freaking mind?

“Just do it, Chloe. You’re vulnerable and raw right now. Use those emotions to give me your story. You don’t have to use real names. Heck, I’ll even make up the names as you go. You’ve already peeled away layers of hurt and angst. Now, you just need to let the words flow like the flow of your earlier tears. I promise you’ll feel better at the end. Plus, I’ll have some excellent footage to show casting, guaranteeing you an audition for my drama series.  Ready?”  Brian goes back to fiddling with the camera all set to hit the record button. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of sharing something so secret with someone outside of my immediate group of friends. But to be honest, Brian is the perfect confidant to spill my secrets. Having no relationship other than causal friendship with the rest of the Fab Five, only having met them this weekend, I know Brian’s loyalty is reserved just for me. Plus, I think he can be impartial once he knows all the players and details of my story. I can’t say Suz, Landon, James, or Patrick could remain unbiased.

“Seriously, Brian? You really want me to reveal my deep, dark secrets in front of your camera? Seems kinda silly if you ask me.” Actually, I’m closer to agreeing than I’d like to admit. I’m always best in front of a camera. I can go into character mode, removing myself from the story, pretending to be someone else. But with something that really happened, something that left me permanently scarred, could I really separate myself?

“Would you just do it already? Confession is good for the soul, you know. Plus, I’ll soon be moving across the country and you refuse to go with me. Least you can do is give me this recording of your exquisite beauty and abundant talent. Footage I’ll need to ease the ache of missing you so much,” Brian says through a smile. Boy, he is laying it on thick.

“Alright, enough of that. Gee, you’ve resorted to stroking my ego just to get me on film. You’re ruthless! Now I know you’re going to be just fine out there in Hollywood…the land of cut throat/back stabbing deals.  Okay, I’ll tell you my story. But I better not see any of what I say written into your drama script,” I warn. Although the things I’ve lived I’d never wish on anyone else, they could be the makings for some fantastic storylines.

“Oh, it’s that good, huh?” Brian teases, trying to lighten the mood and get this pseudo- audition started.

“Good, no. Bad, sad, heartbreaking, depressing, hopeless…well, you get the picture.” Taking a deep breath to steady my nerves I exhale slowly. “Okay, here it goes…” So begins the story of how I came to love and hate Flynn Caulder. And why I’ll never be able to completely wipe him from my memory or my heart.

Hush (Black Lotus #3) By E.K. Blair

Blurb: I’ve come to learn there is no escaping your past.

It doesn’t matter what you do, it will follow like a phantom–haunting you–reminding you.

**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only as some scenes may be particularly disturbing.**

Alysha’s Thoughts:

Black Lotus Series but E.K Blair will certainly keep you standing on edge. So much raw emotion, suspense, mystery, and sexual tension explodes in each book. These books are definitely meant to be read in order, and cannot be read as a stand alone. The pure passion E.K. Blair puts into these books is outstanding! I couldn’t put these books down at all, I literally finished all 3 books in less than 2 days. (And that’s also with working)  I do have to say that reading from Nina, the main characters perspective can be a challenge. The raw emotion, and exact detail of her life leaves you drained. Both emotionally and mentally, its hard to not completely understand her as a person and why revenge is so important.

Hush finishes Elizabeth’s story, and how she starts to heal from her past. She is also presented with the fact that her past will come back one way, shape, or form. Declan is also there with a steady hand to help Elizabeth face it, head on. This book is like a closure from Declan and Elizabeth. You only want what’s best for these two, only E. K. Blair has a different plan. I don’t completely understand the ending of this book, but I can kind of see how Declan and Elizabeth only wanted to be together some way.

Erica’s Thoughts: Man did this series come to an end the same way it started with a Bang! E.K. Blair never stops, or slows down. From the first part of the series to the last it was amazing. We have now reached the end and Nina/Elizabeth has reconnected with Declan, after believing that she has lost everything she never knew she wanted and even the things she did, Nina became hopeless and lost. Nina is working on healing from her past, while some things don’t stay buried like they should, this could help Nina in the best way. Declan and Nina/Elizabeth are meant to be together no matter how much they keep fighting it! I loved this series with my busy life I read all three books within a week! AMAZING!!!

Stalk her here:

Blurb: It’s been said the longest echo ever measured lasted 75 seconds, but I can assure you, this will last much longer. The bang deafened the world around me, muting everything into nullity, allowing the reflection of its destruction to live far beyond its intended life.

It will follow me forever, destroying me—destroying you.

You want answers?

So do I.

Alysha’s Thoughts:

Black Lotus Series buy E.K Blair will certainly keep you standing on edge.

Echo begins with all of the pain Nina/Elizabeth is feeling. You see just how devastated she is by everything that’s happened. Not only did she lose Declan, but she lost Pike, and her baby as well. Was Bennett’s death worth it? Elizabeth did know for sure. She wasn’t even sure about anything anymore, she didn’t even know who she was. All she knew was she needed to be where Declan promised her their lives would be perfect, Scotland. So away she went and all the emotional baggage she took with her almost crushed her. She went to the one place that made her remember the life she lost everyday, just torturing herself. Except one day she wasn’t prepared for what life would bring her from that place. Would this be a good or bad thing?

Erica’s Thoughts: Man oh Man does this series just get better and better! My Goodness… E.K. Blair keeps you on the edge of your seat even more now! Stuff gets crazy in book two of the Lotus Series. Nina oh Nina you feel everything that she feels, each piece of pain, love, happiness, all of it! We learn even more about Nina/Elizabeth in this book. How hurt she has been emotionally and physically. How she became who she is today, but you feel her struggling with so much inside herself. She wants to stop some of the pieces she has put into action but isn’t quiet sure how. Things are starting to spiral out of her control and she is losing everything she has worked all her life for. Nina/Elizabeth in now on an emotional roller-coaster within herself…….. E.K. Blair does it again in this book you can’t put it down and once it is over you feel like you have to jump right into the final book.

Bang (Black Lotus #1) By E.K. Blair

Blurb:They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence.
But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.
My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.

Gone.
Vanished.

I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
Until now.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.

But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it’s the heart.

**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only as some scenes may be particularly disturbing.**

Black Lotus Series but E.K Blair will certainly keep you standing on edge. So much raw emotion, suspense, mystery, and sexual tension explodes in each book. Both emotionally and mentally, its hard to not completely understand her as a person and why revenge is so important.

Bang (Book 1) Begins the story of one woman’s revenge and just how far she is willing to go to make sure she gets exactly what she wants. Nina is ready to take back the life she was supposed to lead instead of the evil one she was forced to endure. Bennett, her husband, is the only one to blame, and she is going to make sure he pays with his life. Only she needs to find someone to help her so she doesn’t get her hands dirty. So once she finds the exact man she is looking for, she knows she has him captured already. Declan, takes to Nina right away, exactly how she needs it to be for her plan to work. She knows he’s the one, but she needs to make sure he is completely hooked. So while Nina is living this double life she seeks the help of her brother to help keep her focused in their plan, but only so Bennett doesn’t find out. Even though Nina knows exactly what needs to be done, she isn’t able to help the way she is falling in love with Declan. The love she is growing for this man isn’t going to help her plan, and her brother, Pike, knows this. So Pike decides to take matters into his own hands and finish up the plan. Only Pike and Nina never realized how much a bang could change.

TOTAL CLIFFHANGER! But don’t let that discourage you!!

Erica’s Thoughts: Bang is the first book in the Black Lotus series by E.K. Blair and Holy balls it is amazing! I  think I read it in two days! While working and being on Mom duty that is how great it is! Nina wants her life back, wants her soul, her family, her innocence, her everything back…….As a child she was pulled away from the only true family she ever had and placed into a bad situation. She wants the man who did this to pay and for as long as she can remember that has been her only goal, with the help of her brother/best friend that is what they set out to do. While Nina is doing everything in her power to keep her hands clean and she believes that she has now found the perfect person to help her, she doesn’t see how not only her world, but her brother Pike, and her new love/mark’s life will be changed forever and not in the way she believes. Like I said at the start of this review I read this book in two days. E.K. Blair does an amazing job of making you want to keep turning page after page and jump right into the second book!
