Plagued by sleep disorders since her childhood, Alice had grown accustomed to the nightly dreams that terrorized her. She woke up in strange places. She was paralyzed by fear and hallucinations. She screamed each night at unseen specters and evil faces.

When her sister, Delilah, goes missing, Alice’s dreams take on new meaning. A link between reality and fantasy, Alice understands that her dreams hold the key to the mystery of her sister’s abduction.

A hooded woman…

A mysterious and dangerous man…

And a doctor who is determined to help her fit together the broken pieces…

Alice has no choice but to peer deep into the recesses of her mind to discover the clues that will lead her to truth. On a race to save her sister, Alice runs a dangerous maze between the nightmares that haunt her and the monster that waits for her when she finally wakes.

*This title deals with disturbing themes that may be a trigger for sensitive readers.*

Erica’s thoughts:  Holy crap Lily has done it again! I don’t know how she does what she does but goodness I hope she never ever stops! I might become lost without her books.

Alice has been hurt by her sleeping disorders and has truly distanced herself from friends and family. She is having a hard time placing things in the right order and telling what is her nightmares and what is her reality. Every week at the same time she visits her childhood doctor who is telling her she is running out of time trying to figure out what happened to not only her sister but herself. Alice doesn’t see the difference, and this is where it gets twisty, and amazing. Lily takes you through Alice’s dreams, and he sessions with her doctor and you get so lost in the story that even you the reader start wonder what is the dream and what is real. Lily writes with such passion and heart that you can feel it in every word that you read. This will be one of those books that you can read over and over again and never get tired of

Excerpt #1:

Some awkward emotion pulled at the corners of her chapped lips, some disturbing thing that caused her to want to laugh off his words as an obvious statement. “That I could love a man like him?”

Turning her head slightly to give the doctor a brief look at her soft eyes, she noticed the rigid set of his shoulders, the seriousness of his attentive posture. He was on edge and she’d been the one to make him that way.

A new guilt rode her, and one she hoped could be lessened with a simple acknowledgement of his concern. “I didn’t love him for the abuse, Doc. That’s not something that makes you love a person, is it?”

Rather than responding, the doctor sat motionless in his seat, patient and waiting for whatever explanation she would give.

Returning her attention to the hair she continued toying over her fingers, she said, “I didn’t love him for that. I loved him because he was dangerous enough to chase away the nightmares.” As an afterthought, she added, “He was dark enough that he overshadowed my light, and the nightmares couldn’t find their way.”

Excerpt #2:

His expression was a blank mask, but the heat behind his stare was sweltering, the small breeze kicked up by the air conditioning system no match against the assault of his illicit inferno. Alice didn’t need to ask him what he was thinking, she knew, and the knowledge was a weighted blade against her senses, a razor sharp realization that shredded everything brave within her to tattered, forgotten rags.

Although his eyes were still the color of dangerous arctic ice, his stare had become anything but cold.

When Alice hesitated, her dignity and modesty preventing her from unbuttoning the dress to pull it from her body, a questioning arch to Max’ dark brow broke through the impenetrable mask he’d worn.

Their eyes locked, the intensity of the give and take between them so lurid that Alice felt tingles across her skin, goosebumps of fear erupting over the surface of her entire body.

Review: Boondocks By Casey Peeler

One twist of the lid changed everything…

The devil sat on my shoulder from my first breath, he watched my every move, and with the first strike of lightnin’ I was pulled under.

Walking into Boondocks the voice of an angel called to me and I vowed to live a better life.  She kept me on the righteous path until Satan called one last time.

It was time to take him down or lose my angel forever.

Alysha’s Thoughts:

Casey Peeler definitely tugged at my heart strings with her book, Boondocks. Young love, town secrets, and illegal activates, are only some of the few things in this book. Many emotions running through this book, so much so I caught myself yelling at the characters while reading. Like they could really hear me, LOL. Then again I may have fallen in love with this book because I’m a sucker for true love!

Walker has always been on the move with his parents, never settling down in one place for very long. Normally because of his father’s illegal activities. All Walker wants to do is make it to eighteen and live his own life without getting caught up in his parent’s lifestyle. Unfortunately being underage he is forced to help his father with these activities. That is exactly why they moved to the small town of Barber, his father, Troy’s new line of business.  Walker was to act like a normal teenage boy, go to school, work at the shop, and be on call for any movements Troy and his business partner needed him to make. Only once Walker laid eyes on Chauna and heard her beautiful voice he knew he was in trouble. Chauna couldn’t get over the new boy in town, his sexy exterior and his manly motorcycle. Once they started to get to know each other that was the end of that, they fell completely in love. Walker knew he needed to honest with Chauna and the things he was a part of, the secrets that revolved around her whole world. He just couldn’t bring himself to do it, and one night he wished he had. That night their lives changed for ever, taking everything they had away from them, lives were lost. Walker didn’t think he would ever be able to get that one thing that mattered the most back, Chauna.

Erica’s Thoughts: They say that you are what your parents make you. I speak from personal experience when I say that is not true at all. You can change it if you want to. I know I did my best to become better, and I know that I want my daughter to be better than I am. Chauna hasn’t ever really wanted much out of her life but to own her favorite bar in her hometown. She believes that is all there is for her. Walker has been dealt a crap hand in life but knows he wants to be better, when his parents up root him again he starts to give up. But when he meets Chauna everything changes. They are young and in love and most of the time this doesn’t work. Casey takes you to amazing places in this book with this young love.

Watching her place her perfect lips on the side of Logan’s face made me cringe. I know I have no right to feel this way, but those two have something that I can’t quite understand, and I’m jealous. The question is, what do I do about it?  As she walks toward me with a huge smile on her face, all my craziness evaporates into the evening sky.

“You ready?” she asks.

“As I’ll ever be,” I reply.

After swinging my leg over my bike, I pass Chauna a helmet, and we put them on together. As she swings her leg over, I hold still and wait for the moment she wraps her arms around me. I take a deep breath as she eases into me and rev the engine to life; all eyes are on us.

“Hold on tight,” I say, and she pulls herself even closer. We take the driveway slow, but when we hit the main road, I pull the throttle and we pick up speed as we make our way toward Sammy’s. As we approach the drive-in, I realize that Chauna is completely right; this place is nothing like it was earlier today. The Sammy’s Drive-In light is lit up like Christmas, and it reminds me of Flo’s Café in the movie Cars. There’s so much neon, and instead of cars, there are monster trucks everywhere. Pulling the bike in, we park, and I look to Chauna for direction as country music plays in the background.

“Welcome to Barber. Where the trucks are hot, but the girls are hotter,” she says with pure sexiness. In this moment, I know that this is just the beginning of an epic, new chapter in my life.

Infinity by Shanora Williams

Blurb: I am going to die.
I can’t change or fix it.
It is just something that is bound to happen.

I have fought for so long that all I want to do is give up, but I can’t because I have a sweet, devoted husband.
I have a sister, who I am deathly afraid to leave behind because I am all the family she has left.
And then there’s Maximilian Grant—the ex that I can’t seem to shake or get rid of.

I want to remain a warrior, but when what’s left of my life is tested, and my love becomes a jumbled up mess, all I can think is one heart shattering thing.

How can I leave this world peacefully knowing not only is there one man that would die for me, but two?

Alysha’s Thoughts:

Talk about ugly cry!! This whole book had me balling like a baby throughout the whole thing, and smiling through the tears. Infinity, by Shanora Williams, is based on a true story, and just breaks your heart. Infinity is an amazing story about one woman’s strength, and the power of love and friendship. Even though this book broke my heart it also showed me the power of one woman’s strength even in death, letting herself live while she can, and fighting to make sure everyone else is okay.

Shannon had a rough childhood, always fighting to survive for herself and her sister Sonny. Dealing with heartbreak and regrets only added to Shannon’s pain. So when she met her husband, John, she thought all her pain was in the past, until she found herself sicker than she ever could imagine. Shannon was diagnosed with Onyx Pleura Disease, a very rare lung disease, one Shannon knew she wouldn’t be cured from. Although John had other ideas, paying for the best doctors and best treatments one could ask for. Shannon was the complete image of strength, always  had been for her whole life, something she forgot about. That is until her past came to find her and remind her just how strong she truly was. Max, Shannon’s ex-boyfriend, Max, needed to see her and remind her of all the things she was, reminding her she is not this disease. Her sister Sonny, saw that she needed this reminder as well, only John couldn’t. He no longer saw her as his wife Shannon, he was her as a fragile thing dying from this illness. When John had to leave away from work, Max took this time to take Shannon to the place of her dreams, Paris. Shannon always wanted to go to Paris, and Max promised her while they were together that he would take her one day. Max knew this was a place she needed to experience and enjoy before her beautiful life was taken away. Only Max and Shannon didn’t realize that this would be the place she would begin the rest of her life.

Murder and betrayal are a way of life, and nothing comes without a price-especially not freedom. But how much will they have to sacrifice? Can they escape their pasts? And, most of all, what does it mean to be free?

Alysha’s Thoughts: This book, Sempre, by J.M. Darhower, is a great story of how two broken people brought together by fate, their lives making a full circle. I couldn’t put this book down, the suspense just killed me with every turn of the page. I could wait to see the connection. J.M. did such an amazing job with this book, this is the first book I’ve read by her and I can truly say I’m excited to read more.

Carmine knows exactly how damaging his fathers lifestyle/career can be, he has lived through the horrible details. Acting out and getting into trouble are his way of dealing with the haunting memories and grief. Carmine knew he would never end up like his father and sell his soul, he never wanted to have blood on his hands. Vincent DeMarco never wanted this for himself either and it was the last thing he wanted for his boys, but sometimes love makes you do crazy things. This is why he ended up buying Haven and bringing her to his home.

Haven has been a slave since the moment she was born, he mother being one as well, she always wondered what else was out there in this world. The DeMarco House was a different environment to Haven, having the ability to roam the house freely, eat whatever food she may want, have a bed and nice clothes. She was even able to make friends with Vincent’s sons, Dominic and Carmine. Although she was still a bit frightened to be around Carmine, the electricity in the air between them was too confusing for her. Haven had no idea of the world and the way things worked, so this was a huge learning experience. As time went on Carmine and Haven fell in love, Carmine wanted to help Haven enjoy every aspect of the world, only Vincent was not very pleased with this. Secrets of Haven’s life could bring danger to them all, and Carmine needed to know exactly what those secrets were to keep Haven Safe. Alysha’s Thoughts:

The Sister: A Psychological Thriller, by Louise Jensen, is a real page turner. Louise definitely keeps you at the edge of your seat, and keeps you guessing throughout this whole book. It has been awhile since I’ve read a good thriller and this book definitely fit the part. Going from present to past in a book can be quite tricky, but The Sister was very well placed and kept you eagerly waiting for the big reveal.

Grace and Charlie were best friends growing up, so when Charlie passed away it ate at Grace, she lost of piece of her. When Grace dug up their memory box there was a letter from Charlie, and Grace was hoping it would explain things to Grace about the things Charlie asked forgiveness for but never stated what those things were. Excerpt #1

She pressed her lips to mine.  Soft and gentle.  I reciprocated.  Loving the feel.  I wanted—needed—to give her comfort.  But then she changed the pressure.  Her movements became urgent.

“Baby,” I tried to caution her.

“Declan, I need you.  I need this.”

I’d take her to bed and just hold her.  She needed comfort.  Then, as if she could read my mind…

“Declan, I’ve known you were special since I read your file.  I’ve wanted you since I saw you searching for Anna.  I’ve needed you since you convinced me I’m beautiful in your eyes.”

“Oh, Allie, you’re the one who’s the diamond.  I see all of your facets, all of your depths, and you shine, baby.  You shine.”  Her eyes lit up at my words, and I was so happy I’d found the right ones.  I eased her off my lap and stood up.  The hungry look in her eyes almost brought me to my knees.  Before she started to stand, I whisked her into my arms, and her eyes melted.  Good, I wanted her to feel as special as she was.

I headed to the bedroom I’d recently vacated.  As soon as I got her to the room, I let her slide down my body.  Since I was just wearing my boxers, there was no doubt how I was feeling.  But I needed to be sure this was truly what she wanted.  After I turned on the bedside light I found her sitting on the bed.  I knelt in front of her.

“Allie, are you sure?”

“Aren’t you?”

I looked at my dick and then back up at her.  She laughed.

“I really want this too,” she whispered.

“Then you might be wearing a few too many clothes,” I whispered back.  Leaning forward, I captured her mouth for a kiss.  Her lips parted and I unbuttoned her blouse.  Slowly, I drew the cotton sleeves down her shoulders, touching the silk of her skin as I went.  She gasped as I traced the curves of her breasts above the cups of her bra.  I broke away from her lips.

“God, look at you.”  I unclasped the front enclosure and her breasts spilled into my hands.  I thumbed her pink nipples and she moaned, and pressed hard into my hands.  She liked it when I plucked and pinched the tips of her breasts.

“Declan, that feels so good.”

I dipped my head and sucked her nipple into my mouth and flicked it with my tongue, loving her whimpers and gasps.  She grabbed my head and her nails bit into my scalp.  I wrapped my arms around her, and laid her down on the bed.  She was rubbing her jean clad legs together.  I thrust one hand between them and she slammed her legs together, locking it in place.  Like I wanted it anywhere else.  I rubbed against the seam of her jeans, and licked at the tender flesh of her swollen breasts.

“So good.”  She sighed.

She arched up, but it wasn’t enough.  I pulled off her jeans and panties.  She was truly beautiful.

“Now you.”

“Your boxers,” she said.

“Not yet.  First I want to play some more.”  The woman had legs that wouldn’t stop.  I couldn’t believe that she ever doubted her attractiveness.  Whoever had been her past lovers had been absolute assholes.

She reached out to me, and I lowered myself into her arms, kissing those plump lips of hers, reveling in the jolt she once again gave me as our lips met.  Having our bodies meet was bliss.  Her breasts touching my chest was heaven.  I dragged my chest hair against her nipples and she groaned.

“Again.  Do that again.”  I did.  Slowly I inched downwards, kissing silken flesh along my way.  Peaches.  I smelled peaches, until finally I smelled peaches and musk.  Divine.  Parting her thighs, I found glistening pink magic.  Allie tensed.

“I am.”  Sure she was.

I pressed her legs wider apart, but it was a bit of a struggle. “Honey, I just want to play.”

“I know.”

“You like this, don’t you?”  I blew against her folds.

“I don’t know.”  Yep, she had only been with assholes.

I parted her slick flesh and licked her.  She shuddered, but didn’t make a sound.  Peaches, spice, and Allie.  So good.  I looked up, and she was biting the base of her thumb.  Oh that was a challenge.  Her body betrayed her, it showed me exactly what kind of touches it liked, and when I added my fingers, she started to pant.

Up and down, around and around.

“Declan?  Come inside me now.”

“Not until you scream.”

My fingers found what they’d been searching for, and she squeaked and tightened in a good way.  Carefully, I sucked.

“Declan!  It’s too good.”  She was drenched in pleasure.

Almost there.

I stroked inwards, and bit her clit gently, flicking my tongue against her swollen flesh.  She let out a shriek, and pulsed her release.

I moved up to the nightstand and ripped off my boxers.  I tore open the condom and looked at Allie.

“Please, now!”

Slowly, I entered her tight depths.  I thought I was going to lose my mind.  It was pure bliss.  Those long legs curled around me, and she pulled me in.

“More!”  I gave her everything.  She gasped, but then smiled.  “Perfect.”

“Thank God.”

I began to move, and she met me.  We danced and twined, moving ever upwards. I felt my orgasm begin at the base of my spine.  I wasn’t going to last.  That beautiful face, those eyes that shimmered.  I dipped in for another kiss that shot sparks.

“Allie?”  I was hanging on by a thread.

She thrust up against me, her heels digging into my ass.  I felt her sheath begin to tighten and I thought my head would explode.

This woman, this beautiful woman let out a joyful sound that was my name, over and over again.

“Yes, God yes, Allie.”

I shot ever upwards until I found heaven.

I ran fast.  Faster.  The door to the gymnasium was propped open, and I was blown back by the sound of people screaming, crying, yelling and talking.  So much sound.  It was dark where I was, but then I saw in one corner where it was bright because the ceiling was gone.  It was the corner where I’d slept.  Had there been a warning?  A sound?  Anything that told people they should move?  Run?  And why the hell hadn’t I considered that the roof might be less than sturdy?  Wasn’t that why I was in Paraguay?

The water was up to my ankles.  It took all I had to be gentle when I wanted to force myself through the throng of people, to yell and scream at them to get out of my way so I could get to where the roof had caved in.  All that mattered was getting to that corner of the gym.  I needed to see if the little girl’s cot was still there or was it underneath the sodden mess of a roof.

A man was in front of me, unaware I was trying to get past.  I had to stop, and it about killed me.

“Sir?”  I tried to get his attention.  Nothing.  “Sir?”  Still nothing.  Maybe if I just belted him, I could just step over his unconscious body.  I couldn’t very well step on the child to his left or the little boys to his right.

Allison stepped in front of me and pushed the man.  Hard.

When he turned, I saw a mask of grief.  No wonder he hadn’t heard.  But I still needed to get past.  Allison had gotten him turned enough to give us space to go forward.

“Declan!”  It was Hudson.  He and six or seven others were struggling to move a beam.  It wasn’t where I wanted to be.  I needed to get over to the corner, but…

I pushed in beside Hudson.  Allison was beside me.  Soon the beam was up.  Allison and another man ducked under, and after long moments pulled out a man and a woman who’d been trapped.

“Clear!” she called.  We set the beam down.

I grabbed her by the shoulders.  “What the hell were you thinking going under there?”

“I was the smallest.  I was also probably the weakest one holding up the beam, it made sense for me to go.”

“Yeah, Emma would have done the same thing.”  I grabbed her hand and dragged her toward the spot where the little girl had slept.  Where she had made me promise to come back.  “I need to check on some people,” I said, proud that my voice sounded even.

As I got closer, I saw wood, plaster, and steel covering the area where the cots had been.  Why wasn’t anyone trying to lift the shit off the cots?  For God’s sake, people had been sleeping there hours ago.  Were these people monsters?

“Hudson!  Over here!”  I knew it was useless, I made a grab for my phone when a man interrupted me.

“Sir.”  He had the white vest and red cross on it.

“What?” I demanded, close to pushing him out of my way.

“This area has been cleared.”

“What do you mean?  What happened to the people who were on these cots?”  I pointed to the mangled aluminum that popped through the plaster.  Did I even want to know the answer to my question?

“We’ve got the survivors in the triage area.”  He pointed to a spot in another corner.

“How many fatalities?”  I held my breath for the answer.

“I don’t know.  I wasn’t there when the area was cleared.”

Halfway across the gym, I realized I was dragging Allie behind me.  She was keeping up easily.  She squeezed my hand, and I kept going.

“Who are you looking for?”

“We’ll find her,” she said softly, but I heard her just fine.
